Last week, authorities arrested a 19-year-old man from Winter Garden for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with a minor he met on a social media platform. The man faces charges of lewd and lascivious battery, a serious sex crime under Florida law.
The suspect was aware of the girl’s age, reportedly under 17, at the time of their encounter, according to the arrest affidavit. The affidavit also states that the two had discussed the girl’s age on Facebook before meeting. After their encounter, the man allegedly expressed regret, stating he “could go to prison for a long time.”
The man posted a $5,000 bond and was released from Lake County Jail.
The girl told investigators that after they had sex, the man expressed regret and said he “could go to prison for a long time” because of her age.
Facing a sex crime accusation can have serious consequences. You may be required to register as a sex offender. A conviction can limit where you live and work. It can also damage your reputation and relationships with family, friends, and your community. In Florida, failing to comply with sex offender registration rules can lead to more charges and jail time.
