Villages Doctor Accepts Plea Deal in Sex Case Settlement

A doctor in The Villages, who was accused of staring at a female patient during a vaginal exam and later sending her sexually explicit videos and texts, has accepted an agreement banning him from examining any more female patients permanently, according to documents filed Tuesday with the state Board of Medicine.

The deal was part of a settlement received Friday and filed Tuesday, and will also require the doctor to present a one-hour lecture within a year to address the subject of patient and physician boundaries on the use of text messaging and other social media.

The settlement has many other stipulations, including the fact that the man will have his license suspended until the completion of an evaluation, a $10,000 fine and must take a legal and ethical course.

According to a copy of the administrative complaint, the man was working at Doctor Today, a walk-in clinic in Lakeland, when he was accused of maintaining eye contact with a 29-year-old female patient during a vaginal exam in August of 2011.

The patient alleged that the doctor then began sending “sexually explicit” texts as well as videos, including one of the doctor performing a sexual act on himself.

The complaint was filed after the doctor left the Lakeland clinic. The doctor recently worked at Tri-County Physicians in The Villages, however it is not clear if the man still worked there before the settlement agreement.

The whole staff at Whittel & Melton was nice and always ready to help. However, I worked mostly with Jason. He demonstrated that he understood what to expect with our case and better that he cared about what was happening. I was very pleased with the outcome of our case.
