Tavares Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Filming Underage Exchange Students

A 78-year-old man has been charged with nine counts of video voyeurism and two counts of possession of child pornography, according to an affidavit of probable cause from the Tavares Police Department.

The victim, a male German exchange student, told police he found a digital clock in his bathroom on May 17. The Tavares Police Department found a memory card and USB port when they opened it.

The student said he had found gay pornographic images on the man’s computer. He checked web history and found sites for “digital spy clock cameras” and spy camera systems, according to the affidavit. The teen told police he also saw an email confirming a spy camera purchase.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office seized items like a hard drive, a spy camera clock, a laptop, cameras, and digital storage, as stated in the affidavit. Police found a video of the victim pulling down his pants before using the bathroom and a recording of the accused setting up the clock camera after reviewing the files.

This incident underscores the seriousness of underage filming charges in Florida, emphasizing the need for justice and accountability.

A computer reportedly held videos of a minor male and another boy in inappropriate situations, as stated in the affidavit.

Forte International Exchange and CCI Greenheart gave police the minors’ names, ages, and visit dates to the man’s home. They were all under 18 and attending Tavares High School, according to police.

The man was arrested and was released on $55,000 bond, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

How a Sex Crimes Attorney Can Help You Fight Video Voyeurism Allegations

A voyeurism offense can be charged as a first-degree misdemeanor or a felony, depending on the State Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors must show that the accused secretly observed the victim with lewd intent in a private area where the victim expected privacy. The charge can be enhanced when the person filmed is a minor.

The consequences are serious, but defenses exist. To discuss your case further with a sex crimes attorney at Whittel & Melton, please call us today or contact us online. Your initial consultation is entirely free and confidential.

The whole staff at Whittel & Melton was nice and always ready to help. However, I worked mostly with Jason. He demonstrated that he understood what to expect with our case and better that he cared about what was happening. I was very pleased with the outcome of our case.
