A man who ran into his front yard to yell at a pickup truck driver who was speeding down Pala Verda Avenue, was hit by that same driver just 15 minutes later while putting out trash cans, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The man’s wife said her husband was taking out the trash at about 10 p.m. Sunday. Just 15 minutes after yelling at the driver to slow down, she says she heard him scream. A neighbor returning home said he saw a white pickup truck on the street and his neighbor lying on the ground.
Sheriff’s deputies later stopped a white pickup truck with front-end damage at the Cumberland Farms store at County Road 473 and U.S. Highway 441. The neighbor was brought to the store and identified the driver as the man he saw speeding in the neighborhood.
A trooper questioned the 19-year-old driver, and he said he was driving down the road with his music blasting when he hit a trash can in the middle of the road. He said nothing about seeing or hitting a person.
The man was charged with failing to remain at a crash involving an injury. He was released Monday after posting a $5,000 bond.
No further information was available about the injured man.
