FBI Reports Violent, Property Crime Down in U.S.

According to a recent crime report by the FBI, property crime and violent crime are on the decline across the United States.

According to an FBI press release, violent crimes in the United States dropped 4.4 percent between 2012 and 2013, which is the most recent year for which statistics are available, and property crimes decreased 4.1 percent.

Another piece of good news: Property crimes have been steadily dropping for the last 11 years.

The FBI collected data on an estimated 1.16 million violent crimes that occurred nationwide in 2013. The following crimes accounted for the largest percentages:

  1. Aggravated Assault – 62.3 percent
  2. Robbery – 29.7 percent
  3. Rape – 6.9 percent
  4. Murder – 1.2 percent

While there was a slight incline in violent crimes in 2012, the FBI did report that this was the “11th straight year the collective estimates” for property crimes decreased. More specifically, the FBI said that a 10-year trend between 2004 and 2013 showed a16.3 percent decrease in property crime.

In 2013, there were a total of 8.63 million estimated property crimes. The top offenses are listed below:

  1. Larceny – 69.6 percent
  2. Burglary – 22.3 percent
  3. Motor vehicle theft – 8.1 percent

The whole staff at Whittel & Melton was nice and always ready to help. However, I worked mostly with Jason. He demonstrated that he understood what to expect with our case and better that he cared about what was happening. I was very pleased with the outcome of our case.
