Eustis Men Facing Federal Meth Charges

Two Eustis men and a Dade City man have been charged with possession of more than 20 pounds of methamphetamine by federal authorities.

If convicted, the two Eustis men, 26 and 45, and the 41-year-old Dade City man could each face a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in federal prison, according to U.S. Attorney A. Lee Bentley III.

One of the men, who was apparently known by law enforcement to be a large-scale methamphetamine trafficker, was arrested in Dade City on Thursday night for allegedly fleeing and eluding law enforcement after an attempted traffic stop. Agents claim they subsequently seized marijuana, a gun and more than $50,000 in cash from a Dade City residence where the man lived with his girlfriend, according to a statement made by Bentley.

The man allegedly admitted to having received 10 to 15 pounds of methamphetamine a week over the past year from a source in Atlanta and said that he was to receive such a shipment on Friday. With the man’s cooperation, agents said they were able to arrest the two Eustis men at their home. The men were arrested after they allegedly delivered around 9 pounds of methamphetamine to the Dade City man.

Agents also allege that they found an additional 11 pounds of methamphetamine in one of the transport vehicles. One of the Eustis men reportedly admitted that he and the other man had picked up the methamphetamine in Atlanta earlier that morning.

The federal government aggressively pursues the prosecution of individuals accused of being involved in drug crimes. The number of arrests has significantly increased the past few years, and the penalties have also become much more severe. If you are facing methamphetamine charges in federal court, it is absolutely vital to speak with a criminal defense lawyer before talking to police, prosecutors, family, friends or anyone else.

The whole staff at Whittel & Melton was nice and always ready to help. However, I worked mostly with Jason. He demonstrated that he understood what to expect with our case and better that he cared about what was happening. I was very pleased with the outcome of our case.
