The Leesburg Bikefest resulted in at least 45 citations — including five DUIs — and 55 traffic warnings through early Saturday by law enforcement.
According to Leesburg police, there was also one felony drug arrest, an arrest on a felony warrant, and four civil citations.
There were also four crashes and injuries in Lake County involving motorcycles.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, and officers from other nearby police agencies are assisting in patrolling the event.
Police said the numbers reflect incidents in the outer perimeter traffic areas of the Bikefest venue, which stretches between 9th and Kaolin Streets and Magnolia to Meadow Streets.
In Florida, DUI laws are the same for someone riding a motorcycle as someone operating a car or truck. While biking is definitely a fun way of getting around, you must still adhere to drunk driving laws in Florida.
If your blood alcohol content is above the legal limit of .08 while driving a motorcycle or operating any vehicle, law enforcement can arrest you for drunk driving.
If you are being accused of riding a motorcycle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In that case, you need a Villages DUI Defense Lawyer at Whittel & Melton to defend you.
