Drivers Injured in Eustis School Bus Crash

A four-vehicle crash involving a Lake County school bus carrying 28 high school students sent two people to the hospital Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred in Eustis on Thrill Hill Road near County Road 44-A at around 6:50 a.m.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a 53-year-old DeLand man was ticketed for reckless driving after he tried to pass the school bus in a no-passing zone and then collided head-on with oncoming traffic.

Two students suffered minor injuries, and received individual medical care.

The DeLand motorist and another driver, a 58-year-old Eustis man, were treated at Florida Hospital Waterman in Tavares for serious injuries. Another driver, a 58-year-old Apopka man, sustained minor injuries.

While most people try and operate their vehicles in a safe manner, there are certain motorists who blatantly disregard or ignore traffic laws when behind the wheel. These types of drivers have a lack of care for their own safety and jeopardize the safety of all others sharing the roadway with them. Sadly, numerous accidents resulting in serious injuries or death are caused by reckless driving such as speeding, running red lights, failures to yield, tailgating, making unsafe lane changes and even passing other vehicles in a designated no-passing zone.

When another drivers reckless actions on the road cause property damage, personal injury or even wrongful death, the injury victim or surviving family members have a right to recover certain financial damages. However, it is important to understand that there are time constraints on how long you have to take legal action, so it is in your best interest to obtain legal help as soon as possible.

The whole staff at Whittel & Melton was nice and always ready to help. However, I worked mostly with Jason. He demonstrated that he understood what to expect with our case and better that he cared about what was happening. I was very pleased with the outcome of our case.
