Clermont DayCare Director Charged With Child Abuse

The director of a Clermont day care center has been arrested for allegedly striking a 4-year-old boy and dropping him face down on a mat, according to police.

The 41-year-old was charged with two counts of child abuse and violating her probation in Orange County for previous convictions for grand theft, organized fraud and welfare fraud. She pleaded no contest to those charges in 2013 and was given four years of probation.

The woman was released from the Lake County Jail after posting a $2,500 bond.

Police responded to the daycare center and apparently viewed a cell phone video provided to the Florida Department of Children and Families that allegedly showed footage of the woman hitting the child numerous times.

The video was apparently recorded by a worker at the daycare.

Crimes against children are especially frowned upon by Florida courts. When you are facing child abuse charges, you need a criminal defense lawyer on your side to protect your future and your reputation. These very serious charges require an effective and hard-hitting defense in order to ensure that your rights are fully protected from the repercussions of a conviction.

There are various factors that can complicate a case of alleged child abuse. Certain actions and behaviors can be easily misconstrued by outsiders who do not know the full story. Even so, it is absolutely necessary to take child abuse charges very seriously. A conviction can lead to jail time, a permanent record, fines, job loss, financial issues, and trouble with family and personal relationships.

The whole staff at Whittel & Melton was nice and always ready to help. However, I worked mostly with Jason. He demonstrated that he understood what to expect with our case and better that he cared about what was happening. I was very pleased with the outcome of our case.
